I read compulsively, eclectically and fannishly.

Akata Witch - Nnedi Okorafor Harry Potter is more widely known and not a bad touchstone, but Diane Duane's So You Want to Be a Wizard books compare more closely in tone and content. Akata Witch does a lot of things exactly right, and incidentally has one of the most gorgeous and illustrative covers featuring a character of color I've ever seen.

My one cavil is the ending–emotionally, it all comes together, but in terms of the actual action scene it seems rushed and insufficient.
